Interview: Migr8.com Mobile Data Access Service
Interview with: Arclid.com
Ltd.
About: Migr8.com Mobile Data Access Service
Website: http://www.migr8.comMigr8.com enables users to access their data from "any device,
anywhere." Popular amongst businesses for enabling off-site employees to view
accurate data from the office, data can be viewed on almost any device with an internet
connection including WAP phones, Pocket PCs and Laptops.
What inspired Migr8?
We saw that it was difficult for off-site employees to get up-to-date and accurate
information from the office, especially in small to medium sized businesses where the
costs of maintaining Remote Access Server connections would be prohibitive. We decided to
create a product that would make it easy for businesses to deploy information quickly to
their off-site workforce.
Who was Migr8 designed for?
We designed Migr8 with everyone in mind. Despite the obvious benefits for business, we
also knew that there would be a great advantage to personal users.
We wanted to make sure we covered all bases by giving businesses the
flexibility of a multi-user account whilst keeping the default setup ideal for an
individual. The multi-user facilities of Migr8 allow businesses to build user groups,
giving access to data relevant to a particular user.
What are the benefits to businesses?
Businesses will find the convenience of having data available for their offsite employees
a major asset. The device independent structure of Migr8 makes the system flexible. A
business may choose to supply WAP phones, Laptops or Pocket PCs etc. to their workforce,
either way the employee will enjoy the benefits of having the information they need.
Why Migr8 and not a bespoke system?
The main benefit to a business of using Migr8 over any bespoke development is the small
comparitive cost. We feel our product also allows scalability where a bespoke system
may fail.
How is the product development for Migr8 unique?
We encourage our users to tell us what they think of the product and how they would like
to see it developed. Through this process we can take our users' suggestions and build
them into the development cycle. We think that this is the best way for the product to
develop. Migr8 is in continuous development. New versions of the client software and
updates to the server side are continuously made.
What is the future of Migr8?
Feedback from our users will shape the future of Migr8, for example, we never intended WAP
e-mail to be part of Migr8! One thing that we are currently developing is document
sharing. Users will have noticed the addition to their menu list MiDOCS.
MiDOCS will allow the users to upload their, word documents, PDFs, text files etc. and
like the Migr8 system promises, view them on any device, anywhere.
How has Migr8 changed from its original conception?
The original conception for migr8 was to provide database access to WAP phones. Obviously
we have grown this considerably to include Pocket PC, PDA, Laptops and Desktops. However
the original concept of accurate information when it's needed and in a usable format has
not wavered.
Should users be concerned about security?
We take the security issues faced by us very seriously. We understand that it is a great
responsibility to ensure the safety of data and because of this a great proportion of our
development time is dedicated to ensuring data security.
